He was sitting there, book nowhere to be seen, the normal pokerface adorning those oh-so-kissable lips of his. Your feet tapped quietly on the floor as you made your way over to join him on the couch, making way for his arm to be slung around your shoulders as it always did.
"Dirk?"
"Hmmm?"
"Where is the book...?"
"What book?"
"Diiiiiirrrrrrk...."
"Oh THAT book!"
From somewhere to his left, he pulls out the shattered remains of what used to be a book. His much larger hands gently push these shards into your own; your eyes are as wide as an entire planet.
"Terrible accident, really. This was all that I could salvage."
You sit there, staring at your hands as he leans closer and tilts your face towards his.

"Mhphd?"
"Never bring that book back in here again or a similiar tragic accident may befall it."
